Hi groupies,
I am just wondering - if everyone feels comfortable - could you each state what previous degree(s) and research backgrounds you're coming from? Alternatively, state the area of interest you are pursuing for this course? Even if it is a work in progress (isn't it always)!
My curiosity emerged after reading through the blog and seeing the different ways we've interpreted the readings and commented on one another's posts. As we each try to grapple with the course texts it would be interesting to know more about the different (or similar) backgrounds we bring to the blog.
One of the best research tips I've received is to "always start with what you know" and then share it!
I always find learning in groups more rewarding when I have to opportunity to connect with my peers beyond the project we share. It makes it seem more real.
I have a background in Art History (specifically Canadian women artists), women's studies and creative writing.
ReplyDeleteI am in both LIS and ARM paths.
Currently, working on researching risk assessment in records management (public sector) for my research proposal.
Anyone else share some of these interests?
I have a background in English and Anthropology. I am in both the LIS and KM paths. I am interested in looking at something records related for my research proposal...I am just not too sure what area of RM I want to look at. I am interested in how information is arranged. We'll see what I come up with...
ReplyDeleteDegrees: English and HR Management
ReplyDeleteResearch: Role of unions in service based industries in developed countries (or something like that)
I Just joined the class (officially) last week—I am an exchange student from UBC. I have a background in Journalism and International Development. I am interested in VA (visual analytics) and RM, as well as the role of information policy.
ReplyDeleteTo add to your "always start with what you know" and group dynamic, one thing I have found that I really enjoy about LIS is the interdisciplinary nature of the field and the wide variety of backgrounds.
Great! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to hearing from the rest of the group :)
ReplyDeleteI have a B.A. in English and a minor in Religion and I'm in the LIS path here at the iSchool. For my research proposal, I was thinking about doing something with Virtual Reference and basically trying to find patterns in who is using VA and what their motivation to use it might be. Hopefully there's something in that! :)
ReplyDeleteI have a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in religion and I am also in the LIS path! I have a research interest but no idea how to turn it into a question, I am interested in the Information output of IGO's and hows this relates to the success in their projects/programs. I feel like this may be too broad and will need to be narrowed!
